FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Are your nails real?

A. Yes. They are 100% my own natural nails.  I use to wear enhancements (acrylics) but I find they're quite  damaging.  Besides, polishing your own nails is so much more fun.

Q: What basecoat and topcoat do you use?

A: I use a variety of products for different things. My basecoat lately I have been using Pro-Fx line which can be purchased from Walmart.   My standard, go-to  topcoat is Seche Vite  sometimes I use Poshe.   I like using  Gelous basecoat for smoothing out chunky glitters.   Other good topcoats Nubar Diamont Shine Topcoat,  Barielle Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender, NYC In a minute quick dry

Q: What nail polish remover do you use?

A: My all time favorite remover is Zoya Remove+, I also use Onyx professional (from Walmart) since it's pure acetone I mix it with glycerin to keep my nails from drying out.

Q: What nail file do you use?

A: I use either an OPI or Swissco glass/crystal file.   Crystal files smoothes down the edges.  I also keep one in my purse because you never know when you might get a break or a tear.

Q: How do you polish your nails without getting any on the cuticles? How do you get an even line at the cuticles?

A: Practice practice practice. Sometimes I can get it perfect and sometimes not.   Here's how I apply polish:
  1. Start with an adequate amount of polish on the brush. You may need more if it's a thick formula, less if it's runny, but it should be enough to cover the nail without drying out or streaking.
  2. Place the brush a few millimeters from where you want the polish to end. Don't put it right up against the cuticle.
  3. Press down gently on the brush. It should curve the shape of your cuticle.
  4. Swipe the brush down the middle toward the free edge.  Then the sides of the nail.  The fewer strokes, the better and smoother the application will be.
Sometimes, even if you're careful, you might still get polish on your cuticles. If you need to clean up, simply dip a small eyeliner or small eyeshadow brush (I use Elf's conceal brush only $1.00)   into acetone or nail polish remover and remove the excess polish.  See my little tutorial here

Q:  How do you keep your cuticles looking nice?

A: Moisture, Moisture, Moisture.  I can't say it enough.  I use  Coconut OilChina Glaze peppermint cuticle oil, and Chi ceramic cuticle oil  but my all time favorite is Otica intense cuticle repair balm. I keep a jar of it in my purse and night stand.
